Community Partnerships Support
I was invited to a planning meeting held at Oldway Mansion to help with the preparation of the Community Partnership strategy meeting. I prepared detailed information together with a suggested model for them to consider. I made the assumption that along with other interested groups BERA would sit on the steering committee. My recommendation to the committee is that we are represented on the steering board and play an appropriate part in the management.
Archiving of information
As you may expect, after 51 years the association has accumulated a considerable quantity of valuable historically records and information documenting the life and work of BERA. On the 16th of February this year I met with the principle archivist and deposited them on permanent loan with the Devon Record Office at Great Moor House Exeter. They remain the property of BERA and can now be viewed by the public.
Bogus Traders
PC Paul Martin informed BERA about an ‘individual’ making entry to local homes and taking goods by deception. We supported Paul by placing the information on our website and spreading the word about these unwelcome events.
Broadsands Car park
The Association has received a number of complaints regarding both car parking charges at Broadsands Beach Car Park, and the parking concession permitting cars to park on the road. Monitoring of parking activities, feed back from local residents and comments form visitors all indicated that the removal of the on road parking concession and removal, or significant reduction in the cost of using the car park, would resolve a number of issues and supports the aims of the 2007 Community Plan. We have written a number of letters to the Parking services dept regarding parking costs and the issues of parking at the entrance to Broadsands car park, including photographic evidence of the turmoil caused by the May to September parking concession. I have been informed that our comments will be added to the list of sites which will be investigated and treated in the 2009/2010 review as part of the forthcoming Broadsands Traffic Action Zone. We aim to pursue this issue on your behalf.
Water services disruptions
Thank you to those who helped gather evidence of the problems and dangers resulting from the water services regeneration period. We maintained pressure on councillors throughout and fed back quite accurate data on traffic flow during this period. This is a fine example of our residents working collectively and sharing information. In these cases only information based on evidence works, so thank you again.
New Committee Members.
We welcome on to the board, 2 new Committee members Ken Prichard and Alison Murphy.
